What Are Veins and Capillaries?
Veins and capillaries are blood vessels. They are a common occurrence, and most people have some visible signs. In some cases, they appear in proliferation and are considered unsightly; treatment of visible veins and capillaries (such as spider veins or telangiectasia) is a commonly sought cosmetic procedure. These vary in size, shape, and number, and may arise from a variety of natural sources such as aging, genetics, or from the environment such as with sun-damaged skin.
At Image Revolution Health and Medical Spa, Dr Alam and Dr McGuire can work with you to tailor a treatment to decrease the appearance of or the complete removal of these common lesions including:
- telangiectasia around nose and other parts of the body
- Spider veins
- Varicose veins
- Rosacea
- Red dots or spots on the nose
- Blue veins on the chest
- Spider veins on the stomach
- Broken blood vessels on the lip or eyelid
- Broken capillaries under the eyes
- Blue or green veins on the legs or behind the knees
- Bulging veins at the temple or on the forehead
- Veiny feet
- Cafe au lait macules
- Port wine stains
- Skin tags
- And more!
Treatment Options
There are a variety of treatment options that may help the appearance of veins and capillaries; including over the counter remedies and prescription medications/ointments. These are not permanent solutions. Other more permanent options include energy based treatments, such as with a laser or high-energy light.
How Do Laser Or High-Energy Light treatment Work?
Laser or high-energy light based treatments work by targeting the hemoglobin within the target vessel. The energy precisely targets the vessels under the surface of the skin and ablates or shrinks the vessel so it is no longer visible. Because the laser targets the vessel the surrounding tissue remains undamaged.
How Comfortable Are Treatments?
Treatment comfort will vary depending on procedure, device used and personal tolerances. Lutronic devices are designed to maximize your comfort during treatment
Is there downtime after laser vein treatment?
All vein treatment procedures are minimally invasive and are performed in the office with an almost immediate return to activity.
Though you may return to normal activities, there may be some discomfort and bruising along the vein, which typically dissolves in 1-2 weeks. Exercising can be resumed in 7-10 days. You should also avoid heavy lifting (anything over 20 lbs) so as not to stress and reopen the vein. Varicose vein treatment contracts the vein, so you may feel tightness or pulling along the vein and inflammation is common. Any side effects will continue to diminish over the next several months. This is considered a chronic and progressive disease, and you should make at least annual follow up appointments.
